The 2016-17 State Budget includes $518 million to upgrade the Ballarat line to Melton, to increase the reliability of services for the Ballarat region and Melbourne’s outer west. The project includes the duplication of an 18km stretch of track between Deer Park West and Melton, an upgrade to Rockbank station, and aims to prepare the line for later electrification. Major construction is to commence in early 2018 with a target completion date of late 2019.
